Added a walk from Portland Bill to Weymouth via the east side of the isle of Portland. This walk is not officially part of the South West Coast path but does complete the coast path round the island (the walk from the west of the island is already on the site).

16/09/2004

Added a walk from Torquay to Paignton on the South Devon part of the coast. The addition of this walk now means that this site covers the complete South West Coast Path from South Haven Point at Sandbanks (near Poole) in Dorset round to Torcross near Dartmouth in South Devon (with the exception of the last part of the Portland Coast Path).

Updated the Dartmouth to Torcross walk by correcting some broken links.

Serious Flooding in Boscastle

A serious flood has occured in Boscastle, after heavy rain caused the River Valency to burst it's banks, inundating the village with water. The serious flooding has washed away virtually all the cars in the village and destoryed or severly damaged many of the buildings, including residents homes, shops, hotels and the visitor centre. Many of the residents have been evacuated and the village is currently closed to visistors (including the coastal footpath). There has also been major damage in the nearby towns and villages, including Crackington Haven, Tintagel and Camelford.

Dorsets Doddle Challenge Walk - 22nd August 2004

This event, organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association Dorset, is a demanding event that consists simply of the coastal path between Weymouth and Swanage. The distance is about 31 miles, passing over some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in England, but including some tough climbs on the way. Anyone expecting a gentle stroll will be in for a shock. The walk must be completed in 12 hours.

Full details and entry forms can be obtained online from the challenge walks section at www.ldwa.org.uk/Dorset or by sending an SAE to Event Secretary Dorsets Doddle, Pig Tale Barn, Church Lane, Osmington, Weymouth, Dorset DT3 6EW. Participants who wish to book a place on the Swanage to Weymouth bus shuttle to the start are advised to book before 31st of July.

Best of luck to anyone taking the challenge!

Updated the Seaside Awards with the 2004 awards.

13/06/2004

Updated the Blue Flag Beaches page with the 2004 awards. In general it's good news - four more beaches on the South West Coast Path have been awarded blue flags. They are Marazion, Westward Ho!, Tunnels Beach (Ilfracombe) and Torre Abbey Sands (Torquay) - congratulations to the managers of those beaches. One beach has however lost it's Blue Flag - Broadsands (Torbay), however this beach does still retain it's Seaside Award.

This site has now moved to a new server, with all pages now being accessed via the domain name - www.explorethesouthwestcoastpath.co.uk. This new site now had additional space and hopefully won't keep running out of space as the old one did. I hope all the site has now been moved over, but please let me know if you find any missing images or dead links. The pages on the old server (joncombe.port5.com) have been replaced with a forward to the new location.

24/03/2004

Updated the Padstow to Constantine Bay walk.

23/03/2004

A few new photos have been added to the walk from Dawlish to Teignmouth. The South Devon Public Transport information has also been updated.

16/03/2004

A few new photos have been added to the walk from Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton. It is interesting to note the change in the cliff at Budleigh Salterton - a lot more erosion is visible in the more recent picture.
